A FisherMan's Tale
One of the main reasons the vaquita population are dwindling at such a fast rate is due to unsustainable fishing practices. However, some fisherman in the Gulf of California are taking action to help save the vaquita through collaboration with government agencies and conservation organizations to develop new fishing practices to help save the vaquitas. This not only helps the vaquita, but also ensures fisherman's lifestyles by supporting their means of economic welfare.
"The vaquita has the right to live as well. If we don’t save them then our grandchildren won’t know them. I want them to be able to go fishing and see one and say, ‘Look, there is a vaquita like my tata (grandfather) used to see!"
